Starting a health and fitness regime may seem like one of the hardest things to do - however, a true challenge is withstanding the test of time and achieving long-term lifestyle changes!
Unfortunately, way too often, initial progress is eventually lost - for example, where weight loss is the goal, it is typically regained thereafter. The good news is, long-term success is most certainly achievable - and here at BBR we keep witnessing this firsthand by seeing incredible, lasting results of our wonderful clients!
Today, we would like to share some of the factors contributing to our girls’ long-term success! If you’re just starting your journey, these little tricks can really set you up for creating a sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle. And if you’ve been working on your health and fitness for a while, chances are you will still learn something new and pick up a tip or two.
So, let’s get right into this!
Tip #1: Buckle up for a continuous journey
One of the most important things to remember is that the journey never really ends! You will shortly find that there is no “final destination”, and upon achieving a certain goal you will most certainly face a new, more ambitious one. As the journey never ends, it’s important to enjoy the process itself while celebrating each achievement.
Here’s what our amazing ambassador Ellie has to say about this:
“Just a quick reminder that we all start somewhere. This is me almost 2 years ago at my starting point Vs me right now. My goal has always been to build muscle and shape. I can't stress enough how important it is to stay consistent and patient with yourself!! I promise you all the sweat, the time, and the dedication pays off”
Tip #2: Progress over perfection
The all or nothing approach kills so many fitness journeys before they even get a chance to properly start! One of the most important determinants of success is applying consistent effort, no matter the circumstances. Conditions won’t always be perfect for fitting that workout in or preparing a nutritious meal - and that’s ok! So long as you’re making the best choices in each situation, you are progressing.
Struggling to track a meal when eating out? Opt for the most nutritious option on the menu and don’t stress about it.
Can’t get a full workout in? Move your body for 10 minutes by doing a little bodyweight circuit, as it’s still so much better than nothing.
No time to get to the gym? As evidenced by our ambassador Carly’s journey, you don’t need a membership at all to get fantastic results, so long as you’re consistent and dedicated!
“Is it possible to get results from home? A question I get asked a lot - the answer is HELL YEAH YOU CAN! I am proof that if you put the work in and use all the tools BBR provides, you can achieve your goals. Massive results won’t happen in a week, you have to make it a lifestyle you enjoy. The time will pass anyway, a year on you could be closer to your goals or still wishing you had started”.
Tip #3: Going off track doesn’t mean you’ve failed
Following up from the previous tip, it’s important to remember that even if you slip off completely for a while, your journey doesn’t end there, and you haven’t failed!
It’s completely normal for other things - both good and bad - to take over occasionally. The crucial part is that you don’t have to give up on your goals completely just because they temporarily stopped being a priority.
Here are some thoughts from our ambassador Melissa, who’s been with BBR for almost 3 years:
“We all begin somewhere. And the journey takes its highs and lows. We stay on track, we go completely off - but it's how we pick ourselves up, learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward! I just want you to remember to trust the process, celebrate all your wins and be kind to yourselves!”
Tip #4: Nutrition is extremely important
We may sound like a broken record, however it’s 100% true that you can’t outtrain a bad diet!
And it’s not necessarily just about “the looks”. Even if you don’t gain weight on a suboptimal nutrition plan, you will likely not feel your best, both physically and mentally. From general sluggishness to poor exercise performance and even health problems, neglecting nutrition can have a major negative impact, no matter how frequently you’re hitting the gym.
At BBR, we provide our lovely clients not just meal plans, but with a variety of tools and resources to really learn the principles of proper nutrition. This really shows, as improving dietary habits and building healthy relationships with food helps our clients achieve amazing long-term results!
Our ambassador Tahlia has noticed major changes in her results since she adopted a balanced approach to nutrition by joining BBR:
“Before I was eating a lot of junk, fuelling my body with low nutritional high calorie foods, a lot of alcohol, no exercise at all. I was always tired, I suffered depression and chronic anxiety. Then, I eventually started eating what I thought was “healthy” - basically, chicken, rice and broccoli 5 times a day. I thought this was required to look fit. Since joining BBR, my relationship with food has changed completely! I have never felt better than I do right now. I LOVE the workouts and the nutrition guidance, I truly feel like I’m nourishing my body. And to me that’s what we should focus on, not just on how we look, but how we feel!”
Tip #5: Be your own biggest motivation
There are lots of potential ways to stay motivated, however the most effective one to keep you going long-term is reminding yourself that you ARE a priority, and you deserve to work on feeling and looking your best.
We couldn’t have said it better than our ambassador Rukhs:
“A lot of girls wonder how to stay motivated...I’m going to say this I am my biggest motivation. Every single day feeling better, looking better and receiving compliments from everywhere. What motivates me? I want to feel better every day; mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually! Make yourself your first priority and your own motivation!”
So, what’s THE secret?
It’s very simple: there is NO secret!
Day after day, month after month, our wonderful clients keep proving that long-term success is perfectly attainable.
It takes a lot of time and dedication! However so long as you keep yourself a priority, take your time to learn the basics of nutrition and training, and make at least one tiny step forward each day, you will create a successful, sustainable lifestyle for the rest of your life.
Hope we have inspired you to aim for new heights - you’ve got this!
